The food industry in Cuba encompasses the activities of transformation of raw materials and obtaining products derived from milk, meat, fruits, vegetables, coffee, cereals, confectionery, beverages, oil, cocoa and the capture and industrial processing of fishery products.
The food industry advances in the design of the Development Program in the medium and long term, where foreign investment is essential to achieve technological modernization, increase installed capacities in correspondence with the demand of the national market, diversify export markets and resize the industrial establishment for an efficient and highly competitive industry.

  • Business Group for the Food Industry aims to transform:

    • Brandy and spirits into: rums of different quality grades, wines (including dry wine), vinegar, among others.
    • Sugar and sugar derivatives into: carbonated soft drinks and candies.
    • Hops and barley into: beers and malts.
    • Cereals in wheat flour into: bread, cookies and sorbets, among others
    • Soy bean into: refined oil.
    • Cocoa into: cocoa butter, cocoa, chocolates, African and chocolate covered products, among others.

Its interests with foreign investment are in the technological modernization for the production of soybean oil, cookies, sorbets, waters, carbonated soft drinks, wheat flour, candies and other chocolate and confectionery products. Among the main imported raw materials are soybeans, hops, beer, flavors, colorants, packaging and preservatives, among others.

There are potentialities in the increase in exports of products derived from chocolate, rum, beers, malts, soy flour for animal consumption and wheat flour for bread making.

  • Business Group for the Agricultural Food Industry aims to transform:

    • Cow's milk and soybeans in: pasteurized milk, condensed milk, sterilized milk, fresh and ripe cheeses, ice cream, yogurt and butter, among others.
    • Bovines and pigs in: boneless meat, sausages (sausages and hot dogs), shaped (hamburgers, croquettes and meatballs), salty meats and smoked products, among others.
    • The coffee bean in: roasted coffee.
    • Vegetables and fruits in: pulps, juices, nectars, compotes, sweets in syrup, sterilized vegetables and pickled vegetables.

SIts interests with foreign investment are in the technological modernization for the production of shaped and sausages and long-life dairy products. Among the main raw materials that are imported are powdered milk, flavors, material for packaging and synthetic casings, among others. There are potentialities in increasing exports of products such as canned fruits, juices and nectars.

Business Group for the Fishing Industry covers the capture, industrialization and commercialization of platform fish, lobster, sea and pond shrimp, cultivation of freshwater species and other aquatic organisms.

Among its interests with foreign investment is the introduction of new technologies. There are potentialities in increasing exports of products such as shrimp, freshwater species and other aquatic organisms.
